Forres Heritage Trust

Properties

The Forres Heritage Trust cares for two landmark properties in the town. It owns the Tolbooth, having completed a Community Asset Transfer in 2006; and it cares for Nelson’s Tower on behalf of Moray Council. Both landmarks are skyline landmarks and are accessible to the public.

Nelson’s Tower

Standing high on Cluny Hill, Nelson’s Tower looks down, with some presence, over Forres.   Built by public subscription, the tower was built as a memorial to Admiral Lord Nelson, and now open to the public with views over the town and Findhorn Bay.

The tower is open for tours from April to September.

Forres Tolbooth

Forres Tolbooth, like its ancestors, has been right at the centre of this ancient Royal Burgh.  There is evidence that the building has evolved through many variations, dilapidations, reconstructions and expansions over the best part of 800 years.

The Tolbooth is open to the public for tours in the summer.
