Roy Dennis OBE is a field ornithologist and wildlife consultant, living near Forres. He has worked in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland since 1959. His Foundation is a European leader in species recovery; latest successes include restoring the white-tailed eagle to the South Coast of England after an absence of over two centuries and translocating young ospreys to Poole Harbour in Dorset to restore the long-lost breeding population. Nearer home he has been looking at the plight of the capercaillie – 20,000 in Scotland when he was young and now only 400 or so. This inspired him to write his latest book and is the subject of his illustrated talk.
