Rev John Maynard is a member of The Nelson Society which was formed to promote interest in and appreciation of the character and life of Admiral Lord Nelson. He will present a talk on John Scott who was born in August 1764, the son of a tenant farmer on the Gordon Castle estate. He became a friend and confidant to Lord Nelson and of whom Nelson is quoted as saying “My Secretary, I esteem a Treasure. He is not only a clever man, but indefatigable in his business, and an extraordinarily well-behaved modest man.”
